The Friends of Somerset Bridge Primary School
Who are we?
The Friends of Somerset Bridge Primary School is a Parent, Friends and Teachers Association. This means that any parent/carer or relative of a child at our school can be a member. Currently, our committee members are:
Daniel Weeks (Chairperson) Vanetta Merrick
Jennifer Manners (Treasurer) Emily Philp
Michelle Dymond (Secretary) Laura Powell-Thomas
Kirsty Cairns Mel Preece
Sarah Chilton Sophie Preece
Vicki Elder Kelly Weaver
Rebecca Hooper Fiona Wheeler
Teresa Lima Adrienne Williams
The staff at our school are all inherently members and some representatives of staff attend meetings where possible.
What are our aims?
Our aim is to support the school and its children. This is mostly achieved through organising fundraising events., we also support events and activities.
What kind of events do we get involved in?
The fundraising projects that we have recently worked on are our evening bingo events, Christmas Fayre, personalised Christmas cards & gifts, ice-cream Fridays and our preloved school uniform sale and exchanged.
We have recently spent some of our fundraising proceeds on gardening equipment, setting up the Forest School, equipment for intervention, subsidising leavers hoodies as well as providing prizes for competitions run in the school. Our longer term project is to fund a larger scale piece of equipment for the playgrounds.
We also host a fantastic SATS party for our Year 6 pupils as a reward for completing their SATS in May; this is usually a private screening at our local cinema, followed by a party in a special location with DJ, karaoke and food, all provided free of charge.
We also support school events by serving refreshments, at Sports Day, house winners parties and the Leavers Assembly.
How often do we meet?
We usually meet around once a month; this is usually on a Tuesday evening at the school. The time of our meeting varies to suit parents/carers and staff members who wish to attend. Some of our members are not able to attend meetings but are update with meeting minutes and support us at events.
When we have an event 'in-the-pipeline', we often have sub-committee meetings in order to solely concentrate on the event planning.
How do I become a member?
We are by no means an exclusive club and welcome anyone who wishes to join us. You can register your interest with the staff in the School Office leaving your email address or phone number and we will contact you. Alternatively, you can simply come along to our next meeting. The staff in the School Office will be able to tell you when the next meeting is scheduled for.
Can I be a member even if I cannot attend meetings?
Of course, Some of our members are unable to attend meetings but we keep contact through WhatsApp/Facebook and seeing each other in the playground.
